Latest Updates from Our Project:

TMK II - Coming in 2022
over 2 years ago – Thu, Jan 06, 2022 at 10:48:53 PM

Dear TMK Backers,

We're happy to announce our plans in 2022 to launch a second Kickstarter for Tournament of the Mythic Kingdoms: TMK II. As we hinted with the blue & orange promo card sent out in the first campaign, TMK II will have new colors for the card backs and deck boxes. The decks will also include all new jokers and bonus cards to expand on the Mythic Kingdoms world.

To help show your support and interest, please visit our "Upcoming Project" page on Kickstarter and click the "Notify me on launch" button:

Second Edition Highlights:

  • Two new colors (blue and orange) for the card backs and deck boxes
  • All new art for the Jokers
  • All new art for the bonus Treasure Jokers
  • All new art for the other bonus cards (instead of double-backers)

The Adventure Continues

Creating the Tournament of the Mythic Kingdoms world has been an exciting adventure. We started discussing a second blue and orange edition even before the launch of TMK I, using the same JQKA and 2-10 cards but altering the jokers to expand the world and characters of the Mythic Kingdoms.

There were many unknowns with the first Kickstarter, including what exactly we were going to do with the two bonus cards. These extra cards became the Treasure Jokers and double-backers. Treasure is absolutely integral to the fantasy world, and we are taking that to the next level with TMK II.

TMK II will feature Greg's amazing art from the original campaign for the JQKA and 2-10 cards, and he'll be creating all new characters and art for the Jokers and bonus cards. These new Jokers and bonus cards will provide a fun new twist on the Mythic Kingdoms theme.

For the theme of TMK II, instead of just having challenges within a tournament arena, the Dwarves, Elves, Undead and Orcs will be going on quests for fame and treasure. What will they encounter along the way? Perhaps the most iconic treasure guardians in all of fantasy? And where might they find these treasures? In forests? Yes. Guarded in magical towers? Sure. Hidden in the tallest mountains? Certainly. Locked in the deepest dungeons? Of course.

Premium Editions? YES!

We aren't going to have stretch goals for the things we definitely want to do, and we DEFINITELY want those premium deck boxes. It will be way too cool to have blue and orange versions of the foil and embossed deck boxes. Backers will still have the option to get the standard decks and/or the premium decks.

Keeping it Simple

One of the commitments we've made to ourselves and our families was to greatly simplify this next Kickstarter. This will also provide a positive impact for backers as we tap into everything we learned from the first campaign. This means a few things:

1) Only creating decks with red/black indices rather than a second set with four-color indices.

2) We'll work again with ArtOfPlay.com to handle international fulfillment. This will also allow us to make some extra TMK I inventory available as add-ons world-wide. Our current Shopify store (at shop.boardgaming.com) is only available for US orders.

3) We'll be working with Bicycle again but starting the process much sooner to avoid the long delays experienced the first time.

4) Committing up front to the premium option with prototypes completed prior to the campaign. This will allow you to choose pledge levels that include the premium editions rather than waiting for stretch goals to be reached.

Q: Will there be a four-color indices version this time?

A: While we won't be making a four-color version of TMK II, we do have stock left from our limited edition printing of the TMK I four-color decks that will be available to backers as add-ons.

Q: Will there be an updated or new art book?

A: We aren't planning on having stretch goals that affect the cards themselves, but a supplement to the original art book is one of the stretch goals that we are considering.

Thank you, and happy gaming!

Hi Backers, the International and US shipping is complete and we wanted to extend a HUGE THANK YOU for helping make this a reality! What started out as an idea has now been shipped all over the world! You may have seen a "teaser" card with two different colored backs included with your package... let's just call it a seed of an idea to one day create two more decks for the Tournament of the Mythic Kingdoms.

If you'd like more decks, or maybe missed out on the art book, you can buy them from our online store:  https://shop.boardgaming.com/

Have Fun

We hope these decks will make your games even more exciting and memorable. We'd love to hear how you have used, or plan to use these decks, so please share in the main comments area. Maybe they help make the experience more immersive for your RPG group, maybe you've invented your own new game with them, or maybe it's simply adding the Fantasy theme to your family's favorite card game!

Again, we can't thank you enough for being such amazing backers, and we hope you've enjoyed the journey as much as we have!

All the Best,

Jim, Jon & Greg

Fulfillment Update
about 3 years ago – Wed, Apr 14, 2021 at 05:39:49 PM

Hi Backers, here is the latest update on production and fulfillment.

Deck Status

Four-Color Decks: We received the Four-Color decks on March 19th from USPCC.

Standard Decks: We received the Standard decks on March 29th from USPCC.

Premium Decks: Gamblers Warehouse (GW) received their portion of the standard decks on March 29th from USPCC. To add to what has been a roller coaster ride of production, GW had packaged all the decks in the premium tuck boxes and then discovered they didn't have the numbered seals. We spent the whole weekend stressing over whether they were lost, how we could re-print them as quickly as possible, and how much this would delay things. Luckily, on Monday USPCC said they found them and are overnighting them to GW... phew!  GW is scheduling to ship/freight out the completed premium decks to us this Thursday (April 15), so we should have them in hand next week!

Some photos of the shipments we've received of the decks and uncut sheets

Book Signing

In February we met up to sign and shrink wrap the art books. Below are some photos from the process. We took extra care to not bend the books or get our fingerprints all over those beautiful covers! After the signing, we spent a couple of days playing through a campaign of Myth (a fun dungeon crawler type of board game).

Signed Premium Decks and Uncut Sheets

After we receive the premium decks, Greg will visit us again in New Mexico to finish the signing of some of the sets of premium decks for one of the Ultimate Pledge rewards.

The Uncut Sheets will be signed and shipped separately from the cards (and we assume this will be the case for international orders as well, though that will depend on how ArtOfPlay wants to do it).

International Shipping

As soon as we receive the Premium decks from GW we will be able to get ArtOfPlay everything they need to begin fulfillment of the international orders. Realistically, that probably means overseas shipping probably won't be starting until May.

All this shipping of stuff from place to place is definitely taking time. One thing we are learning is that most shipping of freight is taking much longer than anyone ever estimates, not to mention all of the little delays that stack up into much larger delays. So, there are likely more issues to come with the international shipping.

US Shipping

Jon has been hard at work getting all the packages prepped and ready to be filled with product and shipped out. He even did some intense package testing (dropping and throwing) to determine the best way to protect and package the decks and art book.

When we saw that we would receive the Four-Color, Standard and Premium decks at different times, we decided to take the approach of fulfilling orders as soon as we had what was needed. The advantages to this are:

1) We were able to start shipping some orders out as early as March 24th.

2) Orders that include premium decks will be fulfilled much faster since the orders that don't include them will already be shipped out.

Promo Cards

We've had a couple of questions about the cards in the little re-seal bag. These are just some promo cards, and different orders may get different cards. Here are some of the cards in some of the promo packs:

  •  Certificate: Redeem this on BoardGaming.com for some virtual rewards
  •  Blue/Orange double-backer: This is a teaser for a possible follow-up Kickstarter
  •  Mythic Challenge summary rules: Self-explanatory
  •  Extra cards: Some of the promo packs may contain a few extra cards that we pulled from some of the damaged or unsealed decks. You could use these for magic tricks that involve duplicate cards.
  •  Bubble-gum cards: There are not any bubble-gum cards in any of the promo packs

Feedback

If you've received your cards and books, we'd love to know what you think. Feel free to comment publicly or send us a message via Kickstarter!
